1. “Oregon Mom” bumper sticker. Beth’s daughter is attending
the University of Oregon.
2. TV camera and light to provide live feed for their weekly
appearance on Channel 3’s Good Morning, Arizona.
3. Beth McDonald, the woman behind the Beth McDonald
Woman of the Year Award. “We are just trying to recognize
women in the Valley. Normally we hear about women who are
either very socially connected or have really big-profile jobs or
names, and we are trying to find and recognize women you don’t
hear about necessarily every day,” she says.
4. Moo Can. When giving dating advice to women, Beth has
been known to ask, “Is he getting the milk for free?”
5. The Shirley MacLaine Memorial Dump button has several
options – Talk Back, Cough, On and Off. “We ended up with it
because Shirley MacLaine came onto the air and said the Fword,
and we didn’t have one at the time,” says Beth. “Also Bea
Arthur,” Bill adds. “Yeah, the delightful Golden Girl came in and
dropped the F-bomb.”
6. “$12.99 right there,” says Bill. “$20 million radio station and 13
bucks for headphones.”
7. Before being invited to do the show with Beth on 99.9 KEZ,
Bill was an evening weatherman for Channel 12. “Saying ‘hot
and, uh, sunny,’” Beth jokes. “It’s like being a bartender at the
Betty Ford Clinic. No one really needs you, but they just like to
watch you,” Bill laughs.
8. Google is kept on standby for last-minute headline checking
and other searches.

9. Scissors to cut out news stories.
10. Newspapers are an essential component to the “morning
routine.” Beth and Bill don’t have much of a routine other than
coming in, grabbing coffee and reading the paper. “Let me put it
this way: there are probably a lot of people who wouldn’t like to
work with us because we don’t plan anything.” says Beth. “And
we can give you that list!” laughs Bill. “Many of them are still in
this building.”
11. Bell. “I don’t even know what the dinger means. It just
means you wake up with Beth and Bill and we just ding you and
say, ‘oh, gosh.’ It’s an extra little thanks. It’s a special moment. It’s
kind of like an affirmation,” says Beth.
12. Beth and Bill are entering their 18th year on the air
together. They celebrated their 17th anniversary on June 5. Bill
happens to be Beth’s ninth partner. “Bill had actually been on the
show as a guest when I was with somebody else; when I was
with another man. We don’t like to talk about my years with other
men,” jokes Beth.
13. “The woman behind the curtain.” Lisa Aguilar, producer
of the Beth and Bill show, has her office behind the clouds.
“Sometimes Bill stands behind it naked and shakes his various
body parts and I guess what it is,” Beth says. “I show her my
man cleavage,” Bill jokes.
14. Bill’s typical uniform is a Hawaiian shirt. “I’m sorry I can’t
hear you; my shirt’s too loud!” Bill shouts.
15. Together they drink countless cups of coffee. “Hot, black
coffee,” says Bill. “Like how we like our men,” Beth says.
16. Copy of The Times.
17. After the show, Beth and Bill can work from home and
answer e-mails on a laptop, though you might have a tough time
hearing back from Bill. “I don’t answer e-mails because I am
anti-social. Don’t call me; don’t e-mail me,” jokes Bill.
