TIMES PUBLICATIONS SPRING 2010 TREASURE HUNT OFFICIAL RULES

How to Play

  1. Find clues for the contest each Friday at www.timespublications.com with the first clues being released on Sunday, April 25, 2010 and then each Friday beginning April 30, 2010 and continuing each subsequent Friday until all of the hidden coins have been found and redeemed. There will be eight clues released for each hidden coin unless the coin is found prior to the release of all clues. Clues will be released on the scheduled dates at 3:00 p.m. Additional clues (Bonus Clues) will be released periodically on www.twitter.com under @TimesPubs. In order to view clues released on Twitter, visit www.twitter.com on the World Wide Web and search for TimesPubs. In order to receive notification of a posted new bonus clue, contestants must become a “follower” of TimesPubs on www.twitter.com.

  1. There are five hidden pirate coins (click here to see a sample of the coin). Each coin has been marked for identification purposes and hidden at a different location within the Phoenix metropolitan area. Possession of one of the coins entitles its finder to an invitation to a party suite at the Diamondbacks game to be played on Friday, July 23, 2010 at 6:40 p.m. At the game, a drawing will take place to determine which of the five contestants wins the first-place prize of $1,000 in cash. Immediately following the drawing for the first-place prize, subsequent drawing will be held to determine the winners of the second through fifth prizes. Winners of each respective prize will have the option of selecting the remaining prize (prize not already claimed by a previous drawing winner) of his or her choice. Second prize is a cruise on the Mexican Riviera sold by Anchors Away. Third prize is an A2B Ultra Electric Bike, valued at approximately $2,000. There will also be prizes available for the third and fourth prize winners, which will be announced at the Diamondbacks event. The third- and fourth-place prizes will not exceed $500 in retail value. Each contestant is permitted to find only one of the hidden coins and therefore, by finding a coin, only secures a one-in-five chance at winning a grand prize. A contestant who has found one of the hidden coins should bring it to the Times Publications offices located at 3200 N. Hayden, Suite 330, Scottsdale, Arizona 85251. At that time, contestants will be provided with an official invitation for the contestant and three guests to attend the Diamondbacks game in the Times Publications reserved party suite on July 23, 2010 when the Diamondbacks will play the San Francisco Giants at 6:40 p.m.
  1. While at the Diamondbacks game on July 23, each individual who found one of the hidden coins will participate in at least one random drawing. After the grand-prize winner is determined, the remaining four contestants will then participate in subsequent drawings to determine the winner of the second through fifth prizes.

  1. Once a coin is found, it must be redeemed at the Times Publications offices no later than Friday, July 9, 2010 at 5:00 p.m. local Phoenix time in order for its bearer to be invited to the Diamondbacks party suite and to the drawing. In the unlikely event that all five of the coins are not redeemed by the specified time, a random drawing will be held on Friday, July 16 at 10:00 a.m. at the Times Publications offices to determine the contestants who will round out the total of five (see contest rules). Announcement of such a drawing will be made at www.timespublications.com and via www.twitter.com.

Contest Rules

There is no purchase necessary. This contest is void where prohibited. Each of the five hidden coins must be brought to the Times Publications offices by July 9, 2010 5:00 local Phoenix time in order for its finder to be eligible to participate in the drawing at the Diamondbacks game.

Each of the hidden coins have been authenticated and must be redeemed and presented in person at the Times Publications offices located at 3200 N. Hayden Road, Suite 330, Scottsdale, Arizona, 85251 in order to be considered valid.

Only one found hidden coin can be redeemed per household. If an individual or one of his/her household members finds more than one of the hidden items, he or she will be automatically disqualified from the contest with no further consideration.

The individual who redeems the hidden coin in person and identifies him/herself as the finder shall be considered the contestant who will participate in the prize drawing. Winning contestants shall have the sole responsibility of reporting winnings to appropriate government bodies and paying all applicable taxes. The second-prize winner may be responsible for port charges and taxes for the cruise on the Mexican Riviera.

Hidden coins not redeemed in person by the deadline will be considered disqualified from the contest, and a random drawing will take place at the Times Publications offices on Friday, July 16 at 10:00 a.m. At that time, individuals present who are not already contestants by virtue of having found one of the hidden coins or who are not otherwise deemed ineligible through contest eligibility requirements (see eligibility) will be allowed to participate in a drawing to determine who will round out the five contestants.

The winner will be awarded his or her prize at the final event, the Diamondbacks versus the San Francisco Giants on Friday July 23, 2010 at Chase Field, 401 E. Jefferson Street, Phoenix, Arizona 85004.

In the event that any of the five contestants who were given an official invitation to the party suite to participate in the drawing/drawings do not appear in person at the Diamondbacks game on July 23, 2010 to attend the drawings, that contestant (contestants) shall relinquish all rights to participate in the drawing and will receive no further consideration. If a contestant wants to assign an alternate person to act as his or her agent at the drawings, the agent must be eligible under contest eligibility requirements and a formal document bearing the contestant’s notarized signature must be provided granting permission to act on behalf of the valid contestant.

In the unlikely event that the Arizona Diamondbacks versus the San Francisco Giants game scheduled for Friday, July 23, 2010 is canceled for any reason, an alternate game will be selected and become the date on which the prize drawings will take place.

No guarantees are made by Times Publications, its affiliates or contest sponsors relative to the value of prizes for the runner-up contestants.

Any participant in the Times Publications Treasure Hunt is asked to be respectful of property while searching for the coins. Anyone found to have destroyed property while looking for the hidden coins will be disqualified from the contest and any available legal action will be pursued.

IMPORTANT RULE

In order to avoid hunters looking for a coin that has already been found, we are adding the following rule: Any person finding a coin must bring it into the Times Publications offices by the close of business (hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday) on the following business day or face disqualification. With the many hunters out braving the heat, it is important for all players to know when one of the coins is found. As soon as we are made aware that a coin has been found, we will immediately post the information here on our website.
